Q: You were once Billanannee. Where did you get that name and why did you change it?
A: On one of many trips between Vancouver and Ashcroft, Brian wanted to show me the cool echoing quality of the tunnel we were driving through. He didn't reckon with the Suzuki's horn sounding like a sick goat. Much hilarity ensued, and we dubbed our car "da Goat". She's become our mascot, our memoir and our faithful ride through all our adventures. We became the goats too, a billy and a nanny or Billanannee.
While da Goat is still with us for a little while, the name brought to mind a country or bluegrass promise that our music did not have. Universal Permit is just that. We carry this internal permit as musicians. We play what we like. We have the Universal Permit to do so!
